Customer Reviews
Customer rating is 4 of 5  much better than it appears in "photo"   2010-02-28
By Seamaster (Georgia)
This watch was a pleasant surprise. I ordered it when the price went fairly low at another website, but I had concerns that sprang from looking at the image (I hesitate to say photo) that is used to represent this watch at most online sites.
My first impresssion of the actual watch was that it is major-league SHINY! You could use this puppy to flash distress signals to rescue aircraft if you get lost at sea! The bracelet, case, hands and dial are all very brightly polished. Only the pusher buttons that adjust the date and 24-hour dial are dull, and that's because they are, for some unknown reason, deeply cut with cross-hatch knurling, but that makes for a pleasing contrast to the overall shine. The bracelet is a full 20mm all the way around, so it makes a very bold visual statement with its shiny beads-of-rice styling. My beef with this bracelet is that it can only be adjusted by adding or removing full links -- no fine adjustment with half links or adjustable clasp. On my wrist, that means the bracelet is either way too tight or a little too loose, but I can live with it. The watch case is a little thick, or thick-looking, actually 11mm, not the 10mm listed in the Invicta specs. The case diameter is listed as 38mm but looks more like a small 40mm -- the overall look is one of nice size balance between the case and bracelet (though the bracelet could be a tad thicker for my taste). The hands are plenty big, easy to read and with generous luminous material that holds its glow for hours. I was worried that the hands would tend to "disappear" when passing over the white and silver subdials, but there is a nice contrast between the two surfaces. The dial is a deep (and shiny)sapphire blue (I don't see any purple tones under any light conditions). And my watch keeps perfect time so far (I read that others had problems in that department).
As to setting the movement -- I received with the watch a single-page illustrated instruction sheet provided by ISA, a Swiss maker of quartz movements. The sheet has easy-to-follow instructions for setting the subdials. The pushers on the right side of the case set the numerical date at "3" and the 24-hour dial at "6". The day of the week subdial at "9" is set by turning the hands forward thru a 24-hour cycle. This turning also advances the other two dials, but then the pushers can be used to correct those settings if necessary. And the pusher adjustments can be done with the crown pushed in and the movement running, so no need to reset the time.
Overall, a nice-looking, substantial-feeling, accurate (so far) dress watch. Or just the right timepiece to wear to the disco!
Customer rating is 1 of 5  disappointed   2010-01-30
By AJ (NY USA)
I usually don't do this reviews but this was so disappointing that I just can not let all who will come after me not to know this.
I always knew that the Swiss product would be the premium quality; it was my understanding the watch I was buying had a Swiss movement. It most likely did, but the watch I received looked cheap not as the photo on the website promised. It upset me. The watch has roman numbers on the dial, but the 4 which should be IV on the watch is just IIII which speaks for low quality. The finish on the dial seemed to be very China like, as well, and I just did not like the look of its face.
These were the objections to the watch it self. Amazon.com on the other hand knows their customer service because their service was just amazing. For whatever reason, I did not like the watch no one gave me any grief; I went to the website and just returned it. I got my label and sent it back. The return did not cost me a penny and the only loss was that I had no present for Christmas. Sure it was a big loss but that is perhaps the way you buy over the net with shipping.
But the whole experience is just inviting "come back and shop with us" and I definitely will.
Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great Watch   2010-01-07

I bought this watch for my boyfriend for Christmas; he LOVES it! It is nice and heavy but not fat. Many people commented about the purple face and I was a bit worried about that, but he loves it (and he's definitely NOT metro, he's a guy's guy). I would recommend this watch!

Customer rating is 4 of 5  True Sapphire? I Don't Know. Watch good enough.   2009-12-29
By Mr. David Hoang (Austin, TX United States)
I'm comparing this watch to my Movado Luno as I type (I own both).

The Invicta is "Swiss Movt" and not "Swiss Made" like the Movado. As I understand it, Invicta is an American company that globally sources components and does final assembly in Panama.

The back of the dial also states that it is "sapphire coated" rather than the "sapphire crystal" label on my Movado. I'm guessing that this means it's a mineral crystal with a sapphire coating to resist scratches. I'm imagining all the work that goes into coating something with sapphire, and I'm not sure how this makes production cheaper. . . but whatever the difference is, they had to label is as a coating, so it's probably not a TRUE sapphire crystal.

The clasp on the Invicta is definitely cheap looking relative to the Movado. However, the Movado was 6x more expensive without really being "6x better."

I just whipped out the calipers. Yes, the calipers. The Invicta clasp is 1/32" thick. The Movado clasp is 3/128" thicker at 7/128". This is a 75% increase in thickness. Is this a much better improvement worth paying for? I don't know. The Movado also has this ingenious looking butterfly clasp that works really well and looks expensive to manufacture. The Invicta design looks more efficient (read: cheap) and functions good enough; my watch has yet to fall off accidentally.

If the difference between my Movado and Invicta clasps are indicators of all the little gears and jewels behind the dial, then the Invicta is surely the inferior watch. 100 years from now, the Movado will probably still be ticking away for my great grandson while the Invicta will be long forgotten. For the Invicta at this price point, I don't really care.
